My husband and I were recently married at the Hyatt Regency in Incline Village and, from the moment we were engaged, I immediately knew I wanted Team La Di Da on board for our big day. La Di Da Hairstylist Kyra Meinzer has been my hair guru for more years than I can count, and I’m always so pleased with her work. She introduced me to La Di Da founder Laura, and the rest, as they say, is history.
I purchased a Grecian-inspired gown, a crystal headpiece, and a crystal hand-piece (all from Australian designer Bo & Luca) and let those pieces guide my look for the day. I knew, based on the gown, the boho-inspired jewelry, the ceremony location (outdoors at Lake Tahoe), and the overall event aesthetic (wild, romantic and bohemian) that I wanted to look natural, easy-breezy and Grecian-goddess-like.
I had my original preview appointment with Laura a few months prior to our wedding, which I strategically scheduled right before my boudoir photoshoot (I highly recommend scheduling your preview appointment before a photoshoot, date night, etc. so that you get to rock your look for something special). I could not have been more happy with how my preview turned out. It was the first time in my life I’d had my makeup done and still felt like myself afterward. And—the best part—I had no changes to make at all. Laura got my look perfect right off the bat, so I changed nothing for the wedding day. (I also am so happy with how my boudoir photos turned out, thanks to Laura’s stunning airbrush makeup application.)
We went with a bronze sun-kissed look with a neutral lip, which worked really well for a summertime Tahoe soirée. For my hair, Kyra added some soft waves, pulled it half-up, attached the crystal headpiece and pinned my veil at the back of my head. Team La Di Da also took care of all of my boho bridesmaids, and I had every single one of them tell me how it was the happiest they’d ever been with professional hair and makeup.
Getting ready at the cottages at the Hyatt Lake Tahoe in Incline Village with Team La Di Da was celebratory and relaxing at once. From Laura, who has one of the most calming presences ever, to Kyra, who brought along a bluetooth speaker and played a great getting-ready playlist, each artist brought something different to the setting and, by the time I was ready to head to the ceremony site, I was left wondering if I could ask Team La Di Da to join my bridal party. (Just kidding…kind of.)
About nine months before the wedding, I stopped shampooing my hair and instead practiced regular co-washing (highly recommended—even though it sounds scary at first, espeically for oily-haired women like myself). I also did weekly coconut oil treatments and monthly inversion for hair growth. My hair was the longest and healthiest it has ever been because of those three methods, so I ended up not needing any extensions to help create the long, flowing locks look I wanted.
Laura introduced me to the idea of dermaplaning, which has since become a regular part of my beauty routine. Because I wasn’t sure what the results would bring at the time, I scheduled it for nine days before my wedding to be safe (I have pretty reactive skin). It left my skin hairless and glowing, but, in the end, nine days was too far in advance, as my peach-fuzz (I am Italian, after all) started to grow back within three days. I highly recommend dermaplaning, but would recommend scheduling it within a few days of your wedding so you reap the benefits on the day of.
The second makeup tip I can offer is this: Schedule a La Di Da artist to stay on-site with you during the ceremony and photos for touch-ups. I originally hadn’t done this, but Laura recommended it and so we added it on. I am SO glad I did. Laura was constantly touching up my lipstick, handing me champagne, and just giving me tons of helpful tips during the post-ceremony photos. (I.e. I had a GIANT bouquet and Laura was the only one on-site reminding me to hold the bouquet lower so you could see my gown.) La Di Da artists are so well versed in weddings and have highly trained eyes, so having them stick around for photos is truly invaluable.
