I would pick the Mk18 if were me... but if you can wait for RNGesus then get the Mk16 or just use the Mk17 until you get the Mk18. . According to Larry Vickers, one of the big reasons spurring on the development of the HK416 was improved reliability with very short barrels- at the time the rifle was being developed in the mid 2000's the 10.3 Inch (and later 11+ inch) barrel length AR's in the CQBR format had only been in use for a short time, and as a result of their infancy had some considerable reliability and gassing problems, which the HK416's piston system would be able to avoid. One excellent product that I’ve heard of but I’ve yet to use is the PRI gasbuster.
